Vinh: Thierry Ngale’s double, one goal from Andre Fagan and another from the substitute Kavin Bryan sealed a 4-0 victory for Song Lam Nghe An over leaders Sriwijaya and threw Group F in the AFC Cup wide open.
Ngale gave his side the lead midway through the first-half and, after the Cameroonian defender had made it two, the Vietnam Cup holders ran away with the game as Jamaican duo Fagan and Bryan netted inside the space of three second-half minutes.
Song Lam dominated the game from the off, driven on by Vietnam international midfielder Nguyen Trong Hoang, who made light of Pham Van Quyen`s absence owing to injury.
Playing on home soil gave the hosts the steadiness they needed to dominate Sriwijaya`s experienced midfield and Song Lam opened the scoring in the 24th minute.
Ngale was quicker off the mark than the visiting defenders and found the net after Fagan’s header from Nguyen Hong Viet’s free-kick was punched out by Sriwijaya’s keeper.
The home side then found the second goal from a corner kick in the 32nd minute.
Hong Viet again swung over a beautiful cross, Nguyen Cong Manh challenged keeper Fauzal Mubaraq, and Ngale was afforded oceans of space to deliver a free header into the net.
The only chance in the first half for Sriwijaya came in the 42nd minute when Keith Gumbs had a sight of goal with a free-kick inside the penalty area after the hosts’ keeper handled a backpass.
However, Gumbs could not convert the chance as his shot was blocked by Hoang Van Binh.
In the second-half, Song Lam maintained dominence and managed to stop Sriwijaya`s players from causing danger inside their box.
They claimed their third goal in the 57th minute when Fagan dribbled past three Sriwijaya defenders before sliding the ball over Mubaraq.
Then, 58th minute substitute Bryan sealed the victory just a minute after coming on with an effort from the edge of the box before Sriwijaya’s misery was further compounded by the dismissal of Oktovianus Maniani with eight minutes to go.
The victory was Song Lam Nghe An’s second of the competition and sees them move onto six points.
